Eleanor Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, today backed the North Wales East NHS Trust to resolve concerns over histopathology at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Concerns on the reliability of the reports of a histopathologist were uncovered during their rigorous ongoing internal audit management.
"Whilst I'm obviously very concerned for the thousands of patients who may be affected by this situation, I am pleased to see that the Trust is taking decisive action having uncovered this problem.
"I have been assured by the Trust Chairman that the situation is being dealt with utmost vigor to recheck and reassure any affected person.
"The Trust has the full backing of surrounding medical clinicians and I hope the final scale of misdiagnosis will be much smaller than feared."
