Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales : Aelod o'r Cynulliad Gogledd Cymru

Visit of Welsh Assembly Government to Wrexham

3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 11th Apr 2006

Commenting on the visit of the Welsh Assembly Government to a question and answer session today in Wrexham, Eleanor Burnham AM, Assembly Member for North Wales said,

"North Wales can often seem forgotten in the work of the Cardiff based Assembly despite the best efforts of North Wales Assembly Members. I am glad to see the Cabinet in Wrexham to hear the views of local people. With increasing cynicism and apathy towards politics we need to give people a greater sense of ownership of the political process."

Mrs Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member, was until recently the Chair of North Wales Regional Committee. She went onto say,

"I hope having heard the views of people the Government will realise the value of bringing the Assembly to the people. Listening to people and giving them their chance to have a say is very valuable. The North Wales Regional Committee does exactly that. The committee must be saved after 2007 when it could be abolished. If we are to prove the Assembly's worth then the committee must be saved to show people how devolution can make a difference to their lives."
