Urgent debate on police force needed

12.16.44pm GMT Fri 11th Nov 2005

Dear Sir/Madam,

The Home Secretary's announcement of a clear preference for one Wales-wide force has undermined the consultation process that is supposed to be happening. The Home Office is riding roughshod over the views of all of us in Wales. It has shown contempt for the Assembly, police authorities, local government and every other body which works with the police in Wales. We need to debate this matter urgently, and ensure the democratic voice of Wales is heard. The Welsh Liberal Democrats have tabled a motion calling for the Assembly to reject the rush to a single National police force in Wales and demanded a formal debate on this issue. I urge all of your readers, whatever side of the debate they are on to make their views heard before they too are ignored.

Yours sincerely,

Eleanor Burnham AM

Assembly Member for North Wales
