Eleanor Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales has given her support to the Liberal Youth Wales campaign calling for homophobic bullying guidance in schools.
She today criticised the Labour-Plaid Government for their failure to act on their promise to tackle the issue.
Last year, following the campaign, the Education Minister agreed that homophobic bullying guidance should be given to all Welsh secondary schools.
However there is still no sign of the introduction of the scheme.
Eleanor Burnham AM said: "Statistics released by Stonewall showed the extent of homophobic bullying in schools. This is an important issue that needs to be addressed by the Government
"Whilst the Labour-Plaid Government's plan and support to introduce the scheme to secondary schools was welcomed, in reality, it seems that they haven't bothered, which is quite frankly disgraceful."
Liberal Youth Wales have now re-launched the campaign in hope that this time Labour and Plaid will take action.
She continued: "I commend the hard work that Liberal Youth Wales have put into this scheme and it''s inexcusable that action hasn't been taken by the Government.
"I look forward to working closely with Liberal Youth Wales to make sure the Labour-Plaid Government gives this matter the attention it deserves."
The new campaign will be called Homophobia is Still Gay. The petition to introduce compulsory homophobic guidance can be found at liberalyouthwales.org.
