Eleanor Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales is calling for inspirational young people to enter Philip Lawrence Awards.
The Philip Lawrence Awards Network (PLAnet) is looking for groups of young people who have made a difference in their community to enter the 2010 awards.
Eleanor Burnham "As an Assembly Member for North Wales, I meet with young people on a daily basis and am aware of the positive difference many of them make in our community, whether through volunteering, campaigning, getting involved in positive activities, or helping others.
"I would, therefore, urge local people to nominate young people to give them the chance to win a coveted Philip Lawrence Award and £1000 to invest in continuing their work.
The awards are open to groups of young people aged 11-20. For more information, and to enter the awards, visit www.philiplawrenceawards.net. You can also read about previous winners, watch videos of their work, and engage with the network through Twitter and Facebook.
Closing date 15th September 2010
About PLAnet
The Philip Lawrence Awards were set up in memory of Head teacher Philip Lawrence who was killed outside his school in 1995 after going to the aid of a pupil who was being attacked by a gang.
Since they began 1997 and the awards have recognised the outstanding contributions of 1200 young people to their communities all over the UK.
The awards champion young people all over the UK who are doing extraordinary things for their communities: leading the way, crossing divides, building bridges between young people and adults, and making their communities stronger and safer.
They challenge the negative perceptions and stereotypes of young people in our communities, showing that the majority of young people make a positive contribution.
PLAnet (The Philip Lawrence Awards Network) is managed by youth charity Catch22 and is funded by the Home Office and the Department for Education
