North Wales Assembly Member Eleanor Burnham AM was on hand this week to present environmental group Chirk Community Forum with a £495 grant cash injection from the Keep Wales Tidy administered Tidy Towns Project.
Eleanor Burnham AM said ". It was a real pleasure to present this well deserved cheque to the Chirk Community Forum to help the Chirk community to enhance their locality even more. The funding will enable the group to pay for plants and trees to help create a community garden that will enrich everyone's experience through a multi sensory approach focusing on touch, texture, smell, scent and sound. The sensory garden will also be used by the local community to grow their own organic vegetables."
Jackie Allen from Chirk Community Forum added "Once again Keep Wales Tidy has come to the aid of Chirk Community Forum by giving us a Grant to enable the Forum to continue with the gardens at Coronation Drive Flats. Without the help and support of Keep Wales Tidy a lot of the projects undertaken by the Forum would not happen. It is thanks to everyone concerned, and long may the Welsh Assembly initiative and support for this type of project continue
Shane Hughes, Tidy Towns Project Officer for Wrexham said "Chirk Community Forum are a long established and enthusiastic local group who have achieved an enviable status throughout Wales by being placed twice in the coveted "Wales In Bloom" competition two years running. The Tidy Towns funding will ensure that this experienced group will create a sensory and vegetable garden that will be of benefit to the whole community. I would also like to express my thanks and appreciation to Eleanor Burnham AM for presenting the grant cheque to The Chirk Community Form.
Through the Tidy Towns Project, Keep Wales Tidy is able to offer financial assistance to community groups who have demonstrated a commitment to restoring their communities to their former glory.
The cash support has been made possible by funding from the Welsh Assembly Government Local Environmental Quality Improvement Projects Fund and will be used by volunteer groups to help cover the costs of insurance, tools, equipment, publicity and training.
Additional support for communities is offered by Keep Wales Tidy appointed Tidy Towns Officers who are on hand across Wales to offer help and advice on forming groups, holding events and applying for grants. The officers are funded via the Welsh Assembly Government's Tidy Town's project.
