Karen Hammond, a Wrexham social worker, was presented with the British Association of Social Workers Cymru (BASW Cymru) Practice Teacher Award by North Wales Assembly Member, Eleanor Burnham on Monday 27th June at Glyndwr University.
Eleanor, who is one of the cross party patrons of BASW Cymru said " The BASW Cymru awards offer us an opportunity to show how important Social Work is to a successful society by recognising and rewarding practitioners for the outstanding work they undertake in their respective communities. Hopefully, these awards increase understanding of a Social Workers' role in working with service users, carers and families and I am delighted that Karen Hammond has been recognised for the outstanding contribution she has made to social work in Wrexham and across Wales.
Keith Drury, Chair of BASW Cymru and a Social Worker based in Wrexham who developed the awards said: "Social Workers undertake extremely difficult tasks in assisting children, families and adults who are most at risk, to take control of their lives and resolve difficulties and conflicts. They promote and support people to maintain independence and improve the quality of lives wherever possible. It is an amazing profession that is often criticised in the media and misunderstood by the public
