Burnham: Citizenship education should be strengthened

North Wales AM Eleanor Burnham has called on the First Minister to pave the way for voting at 16 by strengthening the provision of citizenship education in schools.

Commenting, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM Eleanor Burnham said:

"There are some excellent projects in place that allow young people to get a better understanding of the political process and to feel more involved.

"When I visit schools and young people's organisations they are always eager to find out more about how our democracy works.

"Our party wants young people to be able to vote at 16 - if they are old enough to fight for their country then surely they are old enough to choose their country's government.

"I have called on the First Minister to make sure that schools are taking full advantage of citizenship education and doing everything possible to offer a full understanding of our political and electoral system".
