"While I'm very supportive of any scheme that will give young people a stronger voice and help on issues important to them, I hope that this Labour-Plaid government is not using the 20th anniversary of the UNCRC as a way of masking their failure to safeguard children's rights and welfare in Wales.
"Today in Wales, children are at risk from poverty, inadequate health treatment, inappropriate youth justice system and a failing child protection service; issues that the UNCRC is trying to protect children from.
"Just a few months ago, child poverty levels in Wales went back to the 2003 levels while the percentage of children living in poverty in Scotland fell and Northern Ireland remained constant. This Labour-Plaid government cannot ignore the growing number of children starting life on the wrong foot."
