The conclusions of an independent ministerial advice group on transport to end the free bus travel for pensioners in Wales has been condemned by North Wales Liberal Democrat Assembly Member, Eleanor Burnham.
Commenting on the report , which proposes scrapping a service which benefits up to 600,000 elderly and people with disabilities across Wales, Eleanor said :
"The concessionary bus pass scheme in Wales has been a great success with tremendous take up and I know many people who often use their passes to get about when previously they were unable to do so.
" As a passionate advocate of public transport, I believe the discussion should concentrate on developing including cross border and rural services ."
" I know funding is an issue but it does concern me that when we have a successful scheme which is popular, gives people independence and encourages use of public transport, moves are afoot to provide a lesser service.
