Eleanor Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales has today spoken of her delight that the Welsh Heritage Minster has made £1m available from the Welsh Assembly Government's additional Capital allocation as a contribution toward the total cost of the maintenance and refurbishment of the Llangollen Royal Pavilion for 2009/10.
Eleanor said " I am delighted with this news as I have arranged a meeting with the Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones to discuss funding with the Directors' of Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod at the end of this week and am thrilled that Alun Ffred has been able to allocate this money in advance of his visit..
"However, I now hope we will see a government strategy to provide long term sustainable funding for the Eisteddfod, as in Llangollen we have one of Wales' premier cultural events which is held in high esteem around the world and draws thousands of visitors to Llangollen year after year.
"The worlds' eyes are on Llangollen this week and combined with UNESCO World Heritage status for the Pontcyslllte aqueduct, the area has been given a further boost for the area which will undoubtedly bring a boost to the local economy.
"I have been arguing the case for the Llangollen Eisteddfod for many years and when the National Eisteddfod, Millennium Centre and the Ryder Cup all have the full support of the Assembly Government; an event in North Wales which has a global reputation and touches so many peoples lives needs to be provided with the support it requires.
