Eleanor Burnham, Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales has called on the Welsh Assembly Government to support a Liberal Democrat motion to bring forward a plan to improve access to public transport in Wales for people with disabilities.

Eleanor Burnham said "On Monday, I joined members of the Wrexham branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society at Wrexham General Station who were raising awareness of the difficulties they faced when travelling in Wales.
"Whilst I am pleased there have been improvements at Wrexham Station, many of the people I met described terrible experiences of travelling across Wales and it is no surprise that people feel excluded from public transport when there is a possibility they may be forced to sit in a corridor for their journey, find themselves stranded at an unstaffed railway station which closes the platform lifts in the evening or on arriving at a rural railway stations, find there is no wheelchair access off the train or the platform.
Eleanor concluded "The Disability Discrimination Act has been in place for several years now and it is unacceptable that public transport continues to fail people with disabilities. The Multiple Sclerosis Society have brought this important matter to public attention and I hope the Labour/Plaid Government will support the Liberal Democrat motion today to ensure that Wales' public transport provides an accessible service for all travellers without further delay".
