BURNHAM: COMMUNITY TRANSPORT DECISION A "LIFELINE"

March 11, 2009 5:00 PM

Eleanor Burnham, Assembly Member for North Wales has welcomed the Assembly Government's last-minute decision to continue the Community Transport Concessionary Fares Initiative.

Eleanor, Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Minister for Communities said, "I am absolutely delighted that a decision has at last been made and that the future of Community Transport is secure for at least another three years. It must be a huge relief to everyone involved.

"For many people, Community Transport is a lifeline to the outside world. It would have been devastating if the funding had been withdrawn, but nevertheless, the delay in announcing a decision caused a great deal of uncertainty.

"I look forward now to hearing the Minister's detailed plans, but in the meantime I want to congratulate everyone who has worked so hard in their communities to make this initiative so successful."
