As a member of the absolutely "tip top" Wrexham Library I am delighted with the service I receive there and the amenities available to visitors. The WAG "Libraries for Life" strategy promises major refurbishment for 20% of Wales' libraries, and has removed charges for many services. £10million has been allocated to fund library projects, but like the Community Transport Initiative, the funding will end after three years.
At First Minister's Questions I challenged the First Minister on the sustainability of the libraries project. I am fearful that loss of revenue coupled with greater visitor numbers will put a strain on local authority resources after 2011.
On the day we read the news that Newport Council is already facing a library closure dilemma, the First Minister remained a closed book.
