Eleanor Burnham, Assembly Member for North Wales has expressed her surprise at Dafydd Elis Thomas's recent call for control of S4C to be devolved to Wales. His comments were made at a meeting of Cardiff Business Club.
Eleanor, Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Minister for Culture said, "Naturally, we would welcome the prospect of further powers over the Welsh Language, and also a devolved budget with which to deliver Welsh language broadcasting.
"However, for the Presiding Officer of the Assembly to publicly declare his support for a devolved S4C is quite curious. WAG's Plaid Heritage Minister has expressed the opposite view to the Broadcasting Committee despite the fact that devolution of broadcasting is Plaid party policy!
"Coming so soon after Plaid's u-turn on student top-up fees, this statement by a senior party member is indicative of some very real problems within Plaid as they attempt to assert themselves within the Labour-Plaid coalition".
