Kirsty heads north
New Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Kirsty Williams will take up her election promise to "get out more" today, with a series of visits across North Wales.
This morning Kirsty - who was elected leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrat last week - joined local AM Eleanor Burnham to meet volunteers working with Making Tracks at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club.
Kirsty said: "One of my key arguments in the leadership election was that we need to get out more - and I meant it. So I'm delighted to have been able to make an early visit to the North. The perception that the Assembly is too Cardiff-centric is felt most keenly in North Wales. As someone who represents a seat outside the Cardiff Bay Bubble, I'm keen to make sure that I get out and meet people.
I want to hear their problems so I can make sure their voice is heard in the National Assembly for Wales."
This afternoon, Kirsty will visit Wrexham, where the Welsh Liberal Democrat already lead the council, and will be the challengers to Labour at the next elections. As the party's spokesperson on children and young people, she will visit the council's innovative integrated children's services.
"Wrexham is a key target seat for the Welsh Liberal Democrats and I'm pleased to get an early opportunity to visit and see how our challenge is building momentum," Kirsty added.
"I'm also looking forward to meeting Council leader Aled Roberts and the council group to hear more about how they are provided service for children that are based on what children need.
Notes:
Making Tracks is a volunteer project in Colwyn Bay and provides an opportunity for young people to help others, develop new skills and contribute to their neighbourhood and community. Eleanor Burnham is the project's chair.
