ELEANOR SLAMS MORE POST OFFICE CLOSURES
Eleanor Burnham AM, Welsh Liberal Democrat member for North Wales, has slammed the decision to close four more branches across the region.
The four branches now closing - at Holyhead, Llanfrothen, Llandudno Junction and Llanfwrog near Ruthin - had originally been deferred for further consultation but the axe has now fallen on them following 49 earlier closures this month.
Ms Burnham said: "I am shocked and angered that the Post Office has moved so quickly to confirm these further closures despite significant local opposition.
"In all four cases there were good reasons for these branches to remain open, it would appear these have been ignored and the Post Office has taken the easy option irrespective of how unpopular it may be.
"For example, users of the Llandudno Junction branch will now have to use an alternative branch which is sited at the top of a steep hill, with poor access - both by foot and public transport - and a lack of parking facilities.
"They have totally ignored the regeneration of this area and the potential increase in demand for this branch and ignored the pleas of elderly and vulnerable people once again."
