Eleanor says transport is key
Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, Eleanor Burnham, has highlighted transport links between the region and its neighbours as key to its future economic prosperity.
Ms Burnham was speaking after attending a meeting of the Merseyside Dee Alliance on Monday evening where she joined other local politicians and business leaders to discuss transport links between the two regions.
Eleanor Burnham, Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, said: "We must adopt a broad view of the business opportunities that could be provided by establishing strong transport links with our close neighbours.
"In an age where we are seeing both the benefits and pitfalls of living in a global village we can't afford to be parochial or live in a closed bubble any longer.
"We have to address the issues that can benefit our local economy, such as the long running saga of a bypass in Flint which has stalled for so long.
"For example, without a strategy to maximise the economic potential that the Flintshire Bridge provides the region it will continue to be nothing but yet another expensive white elephant
"No matter how tough some of the decisions that some of the decisions that need to be taken will be to simply avoid addressing it is nothing short of neglect and a dereliction of duty.
"I'm pleased that the Deputy First Minister has recently announced that the Welsh Assembly will look at this again, but would urge that it is done so with a broader view to developing a long term strategy to ensure our transport links are developed in a joined up way."
