Safer, Greener, Better Value,

April 4, 2008 12:00 AM

The Welsh Liberal Democrats will launch their North Wales local government election campaign in Eleanor Burnham's regional office in Wrexham on Monday 7th of April.

Ms Burnham will be joined by Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, Mike German AM and Wrexham County Borough Lib Dem Leader Aled Roberts, winner of the ITV Wales Local Politician of the Year 2007 .

Ms Burnham said:

"In the 2004 local government elections, the Welsh Liberal Democrats increased the number of councillors by 50%. We are campaigning hard for further increases this time round and to end the Labour domination around Wales.

"The Lib Dems have an excellent record of being in local government. We've made the green switch in the councils we lead across Wales, from kerbside recycling in Bridgend and Wrexham to the impressive 40% recycling target reached both in Lib Dem-led Wrexham Council and under Lib Dem Executive member Mike Priestly in Conwy.

"I am particularly proud of the Welsh Liberal Democrat led councils keeping council tax rises lower than any other party whilst increasing investment in front like services like education and social services - especially after the mean settlement from the Labour/Plaid government.

"In Wrexham we have invested in 56 PCSOs which has significantly reduced crime levels in the area making Wrexham a safer place to live."
