Kick in the teeth for police.
17th December 2007
Dear Sir,
As a former Magistrate, I write to agree with North Wales Chief Constable Richard Brunstorm's comments in his blog where he criticises the government's handling of the police pay row.
It is indeed 'shabby and dishonourable' that the Home Secretary has decided not to honour the independent decision of the Police Arbitration Tribunal. To find this out through a leaked document is an insult to a profession that provides a very valuable and difficult service to my constituents in North Wales.
I firmly believe that the arbitration system should be binding on the Home Secretary as well as the police and that the police officers in England and Wales be recognised for the admirable work they do.
