Eleanor Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales and former chair of the North Wales Regional Committee today won her battle to re-establish the Assembly's North Wales Regional Committee. Ms Burnham has campaigned hard to bring back the popular committee, which allowed people in North Wales to get involved in the Assembly's discussions - without trekking to Cardiff.
Ms Burnham said:
"I am absolutely delighted that the North Wales regional committee has been re-established.
It is important that people of North Wales feel included in the democratic process of their country. The Assembly is an awfully long way away from North Wales, which means people can feel it is remote from their lives.
"My North Wales constituents will now once again be able to speak openly, democratically and directly to Ministers and AMs on the real matters that concern them.
"Having fought for this North Wales Regional committee, I now urge the people of North Wales to make their voices heard by writing to their AMs about the issues that affect them and come along to the committee meetings.
"I want Ministers to attend so that the kind of participatory democracy can continue across North Wales.
"I look forward to having a transparent and open debate on the future of a North Wales Regional Committee when we hold our first meeting. The sooner the better. "
