Welsh Liberal Democrat AM, Eleanor Burnham, today faced a panel of 50 disengaged young people from across Wales in an initiative to get young people more enthused about the democratic process and encourage them to vote.
Ms Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Children and Young People was joined by three assembly members from across the political spectrum. The four panelists faced a series of lively questions from young people who are not in education, employment or training.
Ms Burnham said:
""I am delighted to be playing a part in bringing so many young people to the Welsh Assembly and discussing the issues that matter to them.
"We had a very lively debate where we heard first hand accounts of the lives of these young people. It was an excellent opportunity to get many issues off their chests. I don't think I've ever been in a panel as lively as we had this morning.
"My thanks to the British Youth Council for making it all possible."
The all day event, part of the Inform and Influence programme, was designed to give young people who are not registered to vote a chance to visit the National Assembly in Wales and meet with their Assembly Members (AMs) to discuss the issues that affect them on a day to day basis, to connect with democratic processes and get their voices heard.
The event is part of BYC's 'Young People and Your Democracy' event which is supported by the Electoral Commission.
