Eleanor Burnham AM welcomed the statement by the heritage Minister on his portfolio priorities, but has expressed concerns about his plans to fund sport and the arts in Wales.
The Welsh Liberal Democrat culture spokesperson said:
"Lottery funding for the arts and sports in Wales has fallen dramatically in recent years. There are fears that as much as £24 million could be slashed from the Lottery Fund given to Wales to host the 2012 Olympics in London.
"I am fully supportive of the Olympics coming to London and I look forward to seeing many world class athletes come to Wales. However I fear that with the recent cuts in lottery funding to Wales, many projects will go to the wall without this vital funding.
"The Minister's plan to enrich culture and promote a healthy tourism industry is far reaching, but didn't come with any guarantees of funding.
"His ideas are positive, but is there enough money to see all these projects through?
"However, I'm pleased the Minister has listened to what Welsh Liberal Democrats have been saying for quite some time: we need to strengthen arts at a local level. This is a policy we called for in our 2007 Manifesto.
"Promoting the arts and culture from a young age is vital to strengthen our cultural heritage. I will be keeping a close eye on the Minister's next moves on this issue."
