Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for North Wales Eleanor Burnham this week sponsored a centenary exhibition by the Welsh Scout Council in the National Assembly for Wales.

Scouts from across Wales were invited to the Assembly by Ms Burnham to show politicians and visitors alike how Scouting has changed since its beginnings and gave AMs a chance to see the skills and activities of Scouts at their best.

Ms Burnham said: "I am delighted to have welcomed so many creative and ambitious young people, along with the volunteers who give their time and effort to encourage them, to the National Assembly.

"Welsh Scouting today plays a crucial role in helping young people to develop skills that are central in helping them to become responsible individuals in our society.

"I think we need to have more events like this week's exhibition to show people just how multi-cultural and modern the Scout movement has become. Girls as well as boys can join the Scouts, and today I met some of Wales' first Muslim Scout members, showing me what they do best as a 21st century organisation.

"I would like to thank all those who helped to make the exhibition a success, which showed us in the Assembly how many positive skills and talents the Scouts can offer our young people in Wales."
