Eleanor Burnham AM today added her support to the success of the Plas Coch North Wales Tennis Centre in Wrexham, following the announcement of plans for a £400,000 extension to the existing facilities.
Ms Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Sport and Assembly Member for North Wales, said: "I'm very proud to have such a booming sport centre in my region, particularly as it has been recognised as the very best tennis facility Wales has to offer.
"I have tabled a statement of opinion calling on the Assembly to recognise the value of centres like Plas Coch. Not only do the attract World Class talent to North Wales, as we saw in the recent LTA challenger Series held there, but they offer our schoolchildren and local people the very best in coaching and training facilities.
"I have asked the Welsh Assembly Government to recognise the fantastic quality and work of the centre. Hopefully Plas Coch will set an example for other sporting facilities of the same quality throughout Wales.
"I want to see community and national level sports working together, sharing expertise and facilities for the benefit of everybody. Centres like this one offer a real opportunity for communities to get active, get involved and take pride in Wales' sporting heritage. I hope that the Welsh Assembly Government will recognise that."
