The latest edition of Health Statistics Wales 2006 shows that 1 in 3 adults in North Wales are not registered with a dentist. Most concerning are the levels of children not registered with a dentist. In North Wales only 53.8% of children are registered.
Everyone should be able to access a local dentist. The further people have to travel the more difficult it becomes for people to register, especially in North Wales. These figures show that North Wales has the lowest percentage of adults and children registered with a dentist. The Government is supposed to be taking more preventative action in health. It is clearly failing to do so. Unless they take swift action we are storing up massive problems for the future. My colleagues and I will be pressing the Health Minister on this issue and I urge your readers to write to the Assembly Government to urge them to address this issue.
Yours truly,
Eleanor Burnham AM
