Eleanor Burnham AM this week welcomed the support given by the Welsh Assembly Government to a selection of four historic buildings in her constituency.
Capel Y Drindod in Anglesey, Llanerch Hall in Denbighshire and the Oriel Mostyn in Conwy are among a selection of 16 buildings across Wales to be given money for restoration and repair work.
Ms Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Culture and Assembly Member for North Wales, said: "It's fantastic news that four of North Wales' historical buildings will receive some government support towards the cost of maintaining them for future generations.
"These are places that have important cultural significance both within their local communities, and across the nation as a whole.
"I am sure that the money to maintain them will mean they continue to attract interest from beyond Wales for years to come, and I congratulate those involved in their upkeep for their success in being awarded these grants."
Notes:
- The grants come from the Welsh Assembly Government, on advice from the Historic Buildings Advisory Council for Wales. A condition of the grant is that the building must be accessible to the public for a period of ten years.
- The 19th century Georgian Capel Y Drindod in Beaumaris has been awarded ?97,000 for its comprehensive repair.
- The Grade II listed Llanerch Hall, in St Asaph, has received ?27,900 for roof repairs and leadworks.
- Oriel Mostyn in Llandudno was awarded ?60,806 for essential brickwork repair and the restoration of its glazed canopy and lanterns.
- In Ruthin, St Peter's Church, which dates back to the 14th Century has been awarded ?5,250 for the restoration of its stained glass East Window.
