Eleanor Burnham AM expressed her concern over Social Justice Minister Edwina Hart's decision to cut Welsh Assembly funding from the Conwy Care and Repair agency, which works with older and vulnerable people to raise their housing needs with the Assembly government.
Ms Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, said: "I was terribly disappointed to hear that the main reason for the government's funding cut has been the poor operational management of the Conwy branch of the agency.
"Obviously we can't condone any wasteful use of resources, but the key issue now is what will happen to those vulnerable and elderly people who benefited from the Care and Repair service in Conwy.
"I welcome any opportunity for a new independent agency to operate in conjunction with the local authority, as the services Care and Repair provide are crucial in ensuring that older or disabled residents have the chance to voice their needs to the government.
"I hope that Edwina Hart will keep her eye on the progress of any new agency and that her short term rescue strategy can ultimately be replaced with a successful agency representing elderly and disabled people in the area."
