Eleanor Burnham AM has responded to a decision by Environment Minister Carwyn Jones' to continue tipping at the Hafod quarry in Johnstown, Wrexham following his announcement this morning.
Ms Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, said:
"This whole issue has been badly handled from the start.
"Since 1995 when the Secretary of State for Wales agreed that the site could be used for landfill, the people of Johnstown have been let down badly by successive Conservative and Labour governments.
"Carwyn's no-action intervention raised hopes, but has done nothing for residents.
"My hope now is that the tip operators will do everything possible to limit the impact of the landfill site on those living nearest to it, as the final decision has been made by the government."
