I must respond to Karen Sinclair's claim that opposition AMs are failing to support communities in North Wales after we threw out the draft budget last week.
I find it laughable that a minority government who bulldozes ahead with its spending ideas without even consulting the majority parties in the Assembly can then criticise a legitimate vote against these plans. Rejecting Labour's flawed plans ensures that every party will have the chance to secure the fairest deal for their constituents.
Speaking for the Welsh Liberal Democrats in North Wales, I have already stated why Labour's draft budget had to be turned down. Where was the crucial extra funding for our ambulance service? Or the extra money for our local schools?
The rise in spending allocated to local councils across my region continues to drop below the average 4.3% for Wales. In light of this, how does Ms Sinclair believe her party can build 'stronger communities' in North Wales?
I am pleased that we Welsh Liberal Democrats, along with the other opposition parties, defeated the draft budget proposed this week. Labour must recognise the needs of communities right across North Wales, and realise that we will not have their badly judged budget plans forced upon us.
