Eleanor Burnham AM today slammed the Welsh Assembly Government for failing to give any guidance on car parking schemes at NHS hospitals across North Wales.
Ms Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, spoke out on the issue in light of Government plans to consolidate acute NHS services at three hospitals in North Wales, Ysbyty Gwynedd, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
Ms Burnham said: "The co-ordination of car park charging schemes across the various NHS Trusts are, frankly, a mess. As it stands, at these hospitals, each car park is managed by a different company charging different rates for patients, visitors and hospital staff.
"In the likely event that North Wales patients will have to travel between the three sites, there has been a distinct lack of publicity for schemes offering financial help with travel and parking costs.
"There has been a distinct lack of action from Health Minister Brian Gibbons on this ongoing issue and it isn't good enough. The NHS Trusts should be offered guidance by the Welsh Assembly Government to ensure there is a consistent approach at all NHS hospital."
