Eleanor Burnham AM has paid tribute to Wales' most famous fine artist Sir Kyffin Williams, who died today aged 88 after a long struggle with cancer.
Sir Kyffin, President of the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy and outspoken in his criticism of contemporary art, was renowned for his oil paintings inspired by traditional Welsh landscapes.
Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Culture Eleanor Burnham said: "Sir Kyffin's death is a sad loss for the art community, not just here in Wales but throughout the world.
"His paintings captured the essence of our land and its people, he had a personal touch and an unique gift that will never be reproduced.
"Sir Kyffin was both a wonderful character and an artistic genius who will be sorely missed."
