Eleanor Burnham AM today condemned the 12% hike in rail fares and the scrapping of the super saver ticket announced today.
Mrs Burnham, who commutes between North and South Wales several times a week, reacted angrily to the announcement,
"Public transport must be easy to use and affordable for everyone. Today's announcement smacks of a fix to secure fares that are in the rail company's interest.
Mrs Burnham, a member of the Assembly Rail Passenger and Infrastructure Committee also said, "The competition for public transport is the car. Rail needs to be as easy and affordable to use as possible. The Super Saver ticket made rail convenient and easy to use for those who wanted to hop on that the last minute. We don't all plan our journey's weeks in advance. By scrapping the super saver I fear that travelling by car will be more appealing."
