Welsh Liberal Democrats proposals to give new momentum to Wales' economy and environment have been rejected by Labour in the Assembly.
A series of common-sense proposals to boost Wales' economy while enhancing the environment, were put forward by Welsh Liberal Democrat AMs to persuade the Assembly government to make Wales a green world leader.
North Wales AM Eleanor Burnham said: "I am disappointed that the Labour Assembly Government is so complacent about its record on the environment.
"Preserving our environment is something that will require action from all parties. It is too important an issue to allow ourselves to be distracted by petty squabbling.
"Here was a chance to make a difference - improving quality of life for people while boosting the economy and the environment. But the Labour government rejected that chance.
"Time is of the essence. We cannot afford to delay when the future of the planet is at stake."
Notes:
The motion for the Welsh Liberal Democrat Party nominated debate read:
The National Assembly for Wales:
1. Believes that Sustainable Development should be at the heart of government actions, not simply words, and calls on the Welsh Assembly Government to:
a. Publish an annual index in the Sustainable Development report, measuring clearly economic growth against CO2 emissions;
b. Implement a green jobs strategy, with clear and measurable targets for success, similar to that pursued in Scotland;
c. Develop and publish energy efficiency ratings for public buildings in Wales.
Despite support from the other opposition parties, the motion was voted down by Labour AMs.
