North Wales Assembly Member Eleanor Burnham praised Wrexham as outstanding after it played host to the Welsh Liberal Democrat Conference last weekend. The three day event, the highlight of the Welsh party's year, was held at NEWI in Wrexham and at the Ramada Plaza Hotel. It drew party members from across Wales. This was the party's second consecutive spring conference visit to a Lib Dem led Council.
Mrs Burnham, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member who lives locally to Wrexham said, "This was an important conference for the party. The members put in place the building blocks of a new kind of manifesto - the first to include laws that will be made in Wales. The facilities at NEWI were outstanding. Professor Michael Scott, the Principal of NEWI and his staff did an excellent job of hosting the conference and making us feel very welcome. People were very impressed with NEWI and Wrexham and I was very proud.
I knew that Wrexham was the ideal place for big events and that fact was clear to everyone this weekend. Wrexham has a growing stature as a place to invest in and as a base for tourism in North Wales. With the new hotel and terrific transport access it is an ideal centre from which to run conventions and events. People often complain that the Assembly is too focused on and in Cardiff. This conference confirms that North Wales is at the heart of the Welsh Liberal Democrat vision for Wales."
