Arriva Boss Graeme Bunker today accepted a challenge by Liberal Democrat Assembly Member Eleanor Burnham AM to take the train to North Wales with her to see for himself the state of the services. The Managing Director of Arriva Trains Wales said he would be happy to take the Train with Mrs Burnham, a long time campaigner on railway issues.
Mr Bunker was criticised last week when he refused a challenge by the South Wales Echo to travel with angry passengers. Today under cross examination at the Rail Infrastructure committee he accepted Mrs Burnham invitation to travel with her and see first hand the problems commuters face.
Mrs Burnham, Assembly Member for North Wales, said afterwards,
"I am delighted that Mr Bunker has accepted my invitation. I rely on the trains every week to commute from Wrexham to Cardiff and regularly talk angry passengers, upset at the levels of service. Mr Bunker has always been happy to meet with Arriva passengers but I believe he would benefit from taking the train, talking to passengers and seeing first hand what we face on a daily basis."
